Primary Biliary Cholangitis (formerly known as primary biliary cirrhosis) (PBC) is a rare disease caused by an autoimmune reaction that damages the ducts in the liver that transport bile. When these ducts become damaged or blocked, bile may not flow properly, instead collecting in the liver and causing further tissue damage.
